Welcome to team Wholesome Alliance!
The Wholesome Alliance ( WA) is a by member, for member team of dedicated individuals maybe a little too shy for a more demanding role on the server. WA team members are expected to spread encouragement in a dedicated channel through pep talks, stories of success, and helpful resources that capture motivation and optimism.
That’s not to be confused with content that are positive and superficial.
Stay away from anything superficially positive such as "You are loved!" and "You're beautiful!" types of posts, as it can undermine people who truly do not feel that way. It can look like we're just shoving things under the carpet or trying to "prettify" the raw, ugly parts of mental illness.
Instead, look for content that is motivational. Find stories about people who accomplished great things, despite living with mental health disorders, write a small blurb, and link their story. Create or find motivational quotes about getting over the tough times.
Focus on keeping it real and motivating, rather than adorable and fluffy.
GOALS AND CRITERIA
The WA! can range from newbies to veteran members of the server. It is a collaborative team comprised of motivated individuals that strive to spread encouragement.
To be a Team member:
Have a passion for helping others in the server.
Be mature and responsible with the added permissions of the Wholesome Alliance.
Be dedicated to the quota of being on the Team (post something in #wholesome) at least once every two weeks.
This Team not only accepts new members of HoM, but also encourages newbies and lurkers to participate! This is an equal opportunity committee that assures users are equal regardless of activity, age, etc.
WA! Members are expected to encourage other members and share positivity. For example, congratulating people in the #achievements channel, exploring artwork and creations from members in the #creations channel, complimenting members in #selfies, and overall, engaging the community is a positive way.
Also try to welcome new members and get them involved, when you see them. For example, if you see someone new post an #introduction, tag them them #quiet or #casual and strike up a conversation!
Members of the WA! are selected as a result of their successful application process. Similar to other teams on House of Misfits, the structure consists of a Head of WA above a team of members.
New members of the Team, as well as its Heads, are expected to have a low track record of infringements upon the server. All posts in the created channel dedicated to uplifting material is to abide by server rules. There is a strict policy against “trolling” material that abides against the profound spread of positivity and wholesome content. Users found to abuse their role will quickly have it removed without question.
Content to post
There are multiple types of content that you can post in the House of Misfits #wholesome channel. Here are some templates:
Post a motivational quote, but also explain and break down the quote.
"Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it." - Charles R. Swindoll This means that sometimes, bad shit will happen. You'll wake up and your best friend will be completely salty towards you. School is a drag. Everything sucks. But those things are out of your control. The only thing you can control is how you react to those situations.
Post a story relating to someone who has lived with mental health disorder, and has overcome their setbacks to accomplish something great. Write a small blurb to accompany the link.
Did you know that Apple founder, Steve Jobs, lived with OCPD? The National Institutes of Health (NIH) describes OCPD as "a mental health condition in which a person is preoccupied with rules, orderliness and control." Despite his mental health setbacks, he was able to create one of the most innovative and widely loved companies in the world. Choose stories and quotes that incite inspiration and action, rather than just cutesy things that hide the problem. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the #whole-alliance channel!
